Okay! So the end of humanity is here! If you wanna own something Pro, then you should own at least some oil wells. This blog is on one of the most powerful products Apple Inc. has ever made. It's the fastest, the greatest and of course, the costliest. You got it right! It's the Mac Pro.
Now let's go back to Apple's WWDC Event on June 3, 2019. Apple announced upgraded operating systems for iPhone, Apple Watch, and Mac — and a brand new one for iPad. And introducing the new Mac Pro and Pro Display XDR.
Now let's start with the Mac Pro. What is it? It's just a tower made up of metal. But as we all know Apple very well, it sells EVERYTHING separately. Literally every necessity. So lets see what Apple has to say about the Mac Pro. Apple says:
Power to change everything. Say hello to a Mac that is extreme in every way. With the greatest performance, expansion, and configurability yet, it is a system created to let a wide range of professionals push the limits of what is possible.
So I guess this means that the Mac Pro is extreme in every way. Power, durability and price of course. For a wide range of professionals to push their limits (of spending money). Here's what else Apple says:-
Function defines form. Every aspect of Mac Pro is designed in pursuit of performance. Built around a stainless steel space frame, an aluminum housing lifts off, allowing 360‑degree access to every component and vast configuration. From there anything is possible.
Okay, so this means that the 2019 Mac Pro is upgradeable! Thank god Apple made something that's upgradeable. Apple surely learnt from its mistakes from the 2017 Mac Pro. Buyers spent millions of bucks, and they got something which they cannot upgrade. Also there's an aluminum casing on the 2019 model so you can just pull it to upgrade your machine. Well dunno why did Apple use aluminum, but I guess the main reason is because it's cheap and recyclable.
This wasn't the end though, but I wanted to make this post a bit short. As you see, Apple gave us sooo much of information about this machine, but at last, you find just a few Terma & Conditions (try understanding the sArCaSm). Here they go:
Now let's move to the design part of this machine.
The main design feature, that Apple found was worth telling us, was that this machine's casing, which is made up of aluminum, has lots and lots of holes in it! This is for the aeration purpose. Dunno why but there are 3 fans already, plus the company has provided so much of aeration. This clearly means that you are buying a heater that's worth millions! Or maybe Apple has done this to reduce the weight. God knows. Anyways, now lets see what is this heater priced for...
So I went right away to Apple Online Store (India) and checked out the maxed version of this machine... I first thought that there's some sort of glitch in the website, but no, there was no glitch. There were no extra zeros, that was the actual cost. Here it is:-
A freaking total sum of INR 53,33,200/- (Inclusive of the price of Magic Mouse and Magic Keyboard which Apple cannot afford to give for free even though we are spending this huge amount).
So these are the specs of the maxed out version:-
2.5GHz 28‑core Intel Xeon W processor, Turbo Boost up to 4.4GHz
1.5TB (12x128GB) of DDR4 ECC memory
Two Radeon Pro Vega II Duo with 2x32GB of HBM2 memory each
8TB SSD storage
Apple Afterburner card
Stainless steel frame with wheels
Magic Mouse 2 + Magic Trackpad 2
Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad - US English
Final Cut Pro X
Logic Pro X
You even have the option to buy wheels for your Mac Pro. And they just cost INR 70,000/-
Imaging buying 4 small steel wheels at this price.
Well, the specs are great though. But not worth the INR 53,33,200/- you are paying for.
Wait, are we forgetting something?
Oh yeah! What are you guys going to do with the CPU when there's no monitor? Apple has a solution! Apple suggests us to buy their Pro Display XDR. It's the most compatible display with the Mac Pro. So let's check it out!
OMG. Price soars high in the sky this time too. They want us to pay INR 5,29,900/- just for a single piece of 32" screen? I understand the fact that it's 6K, but... it's not for everyone out there.
But wait till you hear that they sell the stand separately! Oh yeah, it's true. You are expected to buy a monitor worth around INR 5 lakh and pay INR 95,000 extra for the stand (it's a necessity, you'll need to buy it).
So guys, if you are looking for a powerhouse from Apple, the Mac Pro is the right choice for you if money is not the issue. Don't forget the fact that Apple sells everything separately! You buy the Mac Pro, then you need to buy the Pro Display XDR, then a stand for the Pro XDR, and finally, some adapters that in total (which roughly cost around INR 10K).
The total setup, if calculated, costs INR 60,00,000/-
So just go and buy it! It's on you whether you need to buy a powerful computer from Apple, or a top model Land- Rover. The price is the same....
Hope you liked this blog. I tried adding some humor, and reviewed the Mac Pro along with some other devices required.
